15 August 2010: Eiland in Beton (“Concrete Island”)

Robert Maitland, a 35 year old architect, ends by an car accident caught up on a ‘island’ between some big concrete highways. He tries to escape, but is hindered to do so by the two persons who live on the island. It all ends in an confrontation with himself.

A collection of stories by one of the master of Science Fiction. A book that I have for many years in my collection and which I am happy to reread.

The latest novell by Dan Brown.

11 October 2009: Fahrenheit 451
(Ray Bardbury, ISBN 90 274 1466 6, 1962/1984, Prisma Pocket)

A classic book. Fahrenheit 451 is the temperature that paper starts to burn. The reference is to a world where the written word is forbidden and all books are burned. Owning books is crime. The main character is a person who job it is to burns these books. A young girl makes him think about things and he starts to ask himself questions.

I own this book more then 20 years. Time to read it again.

The title of this book may indicate a religious book, but that is incorrect. It is a SF-book about human kind traveling into space and finding on far away systems artifact that were created by none-humans races who left without an trace….

Fhahrd is a barbarian from the North and Grey Mouser a small, but very lithe thief from the South. Together they adventure through the world of Remmin.
The sixth publication in the Fantasy series. The book is a collection of small stories. I can remember that I already read these books when I was school and borrowed books from the local library.

(ISBN 90 229 9094 x, 1978, Bruna & Zoon)

A collection of SF stories in Dutch written by Dutch writers. A very nice selection of well known writers, but also names that were not that well known in 1978. The publisher “Bruna & Zoon” published for a period a SF yearbook. This book is third one in that series.
I like these short stories. They are mostly well written and mostly very surprising.
