In the Netherlands we have a number of newspapers that are spread around free of charge. One of these newspapers is the “Spits”, which is every morning available on many stations. I wasn’t aware that Marion could read this newspaper as well…
So…
Some days ago someone complained that many people have so little historical knowledge of WOII. With all kind of weird constructions he tried to make clear the caused by extreme left winged political influences (while it is well known that right winged parties are behind WOII…. extreme ones, but still right ones). This most likely because the critics a certain Dutch right winged politician gets.
Something must have triggered Marion to respond these person remarks as I know it is nothing she would do normally.
But I agree with her…. when there are so many innocent casualties, things as left or right winged are not important anymore. Only people count then….
At times Dutch visitors bring along newspapers like the “Spit”, which they get most likely at the Schiphol Airport. This happened with the newspaper with the article I responded on.
But most of these newspapers have websites as well, which help me to stay informed of what is going on in The Netherlands.
And yes, I truly dislike it when someone tries to misuse a tragedy as the Second World War to make a political statement and that made me react.
Wow Rob, I see your point. But as always. I disagree.
WOII was caused by left and right winged. And (extreme) left is as bad as (Extreme) right. (The opposite of bad does not have to be good. But can be bad too)
More often Extreme left are as violent (or more) than right. Such as the anarchist or the Rote Armee Fraction.
One thing i have learned is that there is no good or bad. No black and white. No absolute right or left.
Opinions (right or wrong) are all in the eye of the beholder.
Overreacting in one way causes an overreaction to the other way.
That is natures way of compensating.
I am used to it that you disagree with me, Patrick 😛
I will not deny that left influences played an important role in WOII, a negative one even. But I think it is correct to say extreme right started WOII.
Extreme left and extreme right are in my opinion equally bad and undesired. Searching the Internet gives the impression that there is balance in the amount of violence caused by extreme left or extreme right. But I admit that is no real proof, just an indication and nothing more then that (I used same searching keys and just replaced left/right).
As already said, although I am left winged orientated (but far from extreme left), I will be the first person to admit that extreme left is just as bad as extreme right.
Yes, opinions are in the eye of the beholder. But there are limits to what is acceptable. And here we have the problem: Who determines what is acceptable? For some it will the laws of a country… For others what is written in religious books as the Bible or the Koran… Others may look ideologies and philosophic ways…. And for most it may an combination of many things. Complicated stuff… that it is.
And this time i agree with you
(except about the beginning of WO2. this is so complex and roots so deep in the decades before the actual war (even before Wo1) that it cannot be accounted to one faction (whatever that may be))
