Some conversations that I had lately made me think about some things again. I used to be so busy with things as Linux (Linux is an operation systems as Windows, Dos and Unix are), but since my old lap top that loaded Linux went down with bad hardware-problems I never thought back on Linux again… until this weekend.

This weekend I downloaded the Linux distribution OpenSuSe. Why this distribution? Suse was the first Linux I experimented with many years ago. It is connected to Novell (I always be a Novell man). And Suse has a very good name.

So I have installed OpenSuSe this weekend. I had some small problems with the partitions, but that was basically all. All hardware in the system was recognized without any problems (the old TV card included).
I really have to say I like OpenSuSe. The Graphic Shell is great (I have chosen for Gnome). I don’t know how to say exactly, but this interface fits better to me then the one of Windows. It feels more logical in use… (and no, I won’t make bad jokes about Windows where have to use the Start-button to shutdown the system… 🙂 ).
You won’t hear make me remarks that Linux is more secure as Windows. Windows is more popular, so a more wanted target for crackers, script-kiddies and virus-writer. One thing though, Linux forces more to not work with administrator rights and that does help a lot against attacks against a computer.

One remark I really have to make… I recently saw Windows Vista with all its graphic gadgets active and I admit, it looks very good… But then also, why can do Linux do the same and better in some things on hardware that is at least 4 years old?

And remember the words of Linus Thorvalds: ““Software is like sex, it’s better when it’s free!” 😉

*grins* The OS/2 feeling is back again :P.
