About a week ago, our travel agency informed us that our vacation in Greece had been cancelled. Due the current Corona situation all of their flights in May would be cancelled.
Of course, we wanted to go back to Lesvos for twelve days. We were really excited about this. It would be so nice to meet Mel personally again. See our part of the olive orchard again and talk with Costas about all his work there. To check out all the places we already know and the new ones Mel wants to show us. Enjoying the many terraces with something nice to drink and good food again.
So yes, we were feeling a bit sad about that. This was the second time a trip to Lesvos had been cancelled. We really miss Mel, who has become a very good and close friend to us. Sure, we are happy that we can talk through video calls and the like, but as Rob always says, nothing beats a real Greek hug.
Last week, Rob had a call with the travel agency. They offered us two options, a complete refund or moving the trip again.
A refund was no option for us as we really want to go to Lesvos. So Rob discussed moving the trip to a later point this year. He remembered that we really liked the hotel where we stayed in 2019 and he asked if it was possible to rebook the holiday to that hotel…. and that wasn’t an issue at all.
After talking about it, we decided that August would be the best time for us. The tourism season is then for the most part over. Not that the island is really flooded with tourists, there are no big hotels or big resorts (the whole island is a UNESCO Geopark which prevents it).
But then there was a great surprise! The travel agency employee was reviewing all the details of the new vacation reservation. He said that because the new holiday was not during the tourist season, it would be cheaper. That would mean that we could get some money back. Then he informed us that for just 15 Euro more per person we could turn the 12 days holiday into a 22 day one. It didn’t take one second to think about it. Of course we did this!
So now we have a 22 days holiday in August. It can sound like a long time from now on. But it’s already May, which means it’s only three months.
And we’ll both be vaccinated before then, which will make it all easier.
Really looking forward on this!
Very nice article, Marion.
And yes, I guess we both were really disappointed when we got the news that the holiday was cancelled again. And so much better was the news that for such a small amount we could make the holiday in August 10 days longer!
This is really good news. I am looking forward to see you two here again.
And just as I said yesterday, if I get the opportunity to come to The Netherlands before August, I will do so. That for sure!
