Rob and I were drinking our first coffee of the day, when we heard the sirens of the fire brigade. This happens more often, so we weren’t really worried.
But the sound of the sirens grew stronger… Then Rob said, “Those cars pulled up right next to our building!”
Rob asked me to get dressed and he did as well. In the corridor of the building, there was a smell of smoke. Rob said it came from the way up the main staircase.
Some persons who were also in the corridor wanted to go down using the main staircase. Rob advised them to use the nearby emergency stairs (his ‘BHV’ experiences are shown here:)).
Once down, Rob relaxed as he watched the firemen speak very calmly to an older lady who also lives in this building.
It turned out this lady forgot there was a pan on the stove. The contents (we don’t know what) burned and spread a great deal of smoke and a bad smell.
A little irritated by the people who were making photographs of this all, he turned away. Knowing now that all was well, he smiled at me and said, “Shall we go back to our coffee?”.
Never a dull moment in Heemskerk…
Yes, the start of the day was “different” again 🙂
If there is one thing I am afraid of that it is an fire!
