so I don’t have to spend my whole life fearing hell,
or fearing heaven even more.
For whatever the tortures of hell,
I think the boredom of heaven would be even worse.”
Today I read somewhere the above quote from Isaac Asimov and it made me think.
Some religious people (no, not all) are so busy with their afterlife that it looks that they completely forget that there is a current life. But what if there is no afterlife and that when you die it just end of all. Everything stops, the light goes out and *poof*….. brain dead.
So you spend all your life for something that is not there. You wasted your life completely for nothing. What a waste…..
At least I could say when it turns out I was wrong: “Oops… so sorry!” (Although I am very convinced that I would not be able to say sorry when I am dead and that there is nothing or someone to say sorry to).
Yes, I heard that argument before and I fully agree with you.
I rather make the best of this life, because this life that I am leading currently is a fact. The changes that there is an afterlife is close to zero, if not zero. So, as said, I fully go for this life that I have now :-).
