I removed my X account (formerly Twitter) quite some time ago. There was just too much hatred and disinformation going around there for me.
Recently, I took a look at what I had shared on Instagram. It wasn’t important to me, so I also deleted that account.
I have to admit that I found Facebook more difficult. I knew so many people there. Some of them I hadn’t seen or talked to in many years. There are quite a few very good memories on Facebook. And there were also some very interesting and fun groups.
I have always had a problem with the way Meta (the company behind Facebook and Instagram) has dealt with privacy issues.
And the way they pushed forward their AI tool was terrible. It only made things worse.
Then there’s the fact that Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg “bowed down” to Trump. To me, this only shows that he is after power and money. That’s bad news for a social media platform.
As I said, Facebook was kind of difficult, but today I pressed the ‘Delete permanently’ button. In 30 days, everything will be gone. Now it’s done, it feels good.
I know that a lot of people don’t care about their privacy online. I do, though — I’ve seen too many examples of how it has been misused.
Anyway, it’s finished and it’s good.
