Already since last year we were planning to spend Christmas together with my parents in a very nice hotel. We were thinking that in a year we would not suffer any more from any Covid-19 measures. How wrong could we be!
There is a lockdown in the Netherlands, but not as strict as a year ago. There are measures like keeping 1.5 m distance, no more than 4 visitors per day at your home, work from home if possible, all non-essential stores should close at 5:00 pm. Last also goes for restaurants, cafes, musea and like.
As they say often: We are done with the virus, but the virus is not done with us yet!
Anyway, with the news that the lockdown would be extended, we began to worry about our Christmas holiday. Especially when news was more or less confirmed that 5:00pm would be kept in place.
But the hotel contacted us with good news.
The hotel has to comply with the 5:00 pm measure. So no drinks and food in the public rooms and maybe even the public rooms must be closed from that point on.
So they decided to switch the meals. Of course, breakfast remains what it is. But the dinner will be at noon. And lunch, which is usually served around noon, will move to the late afternoon and can be served in the hotel room.
In addition, they will ensure that during the evening, you can order something to drink or light snacks. It is very likely to be done as room service.
It’s a great solution for us. During the days and in the evening we will make long walks in the beautiful forest surrounding the hotel.
The hotel rooms are large and comfortable. We bought some books to be read in the times at the hotel. In the evening a nice bottle of wine, some snacks and some snacks (Rob bought a wireless speaker for his iPhone for this) and we will be happy.
I’m really happy we’re away for Christmas. Rob really needs some time away from everything. And to be honest, I do too… So we both are looking forward to this!
